Hai Bawang Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Hai Bawang Restaurant in Taipei's Zhongshan District feels like wandering into a carefully preserved corner of Taiwanese tradition. The space carries a warm, unhurried rhythm, inviting diners to settle in and immerse themselves in a dining experience that’s as much about connection as it is about the food. It's not a place rushing to impress with modern flair but one that quietly honors the familiar comforts of an old-style banquet, where every dish tells a story and every shared bite evokes a sense of home.
The atmosphere here is gentle and inviting, echoing with the subtle hum of conversation, the clink of chopsticks, and the soft murmur of appreciation for each course. Patrons gather comfortably around generous tables, bridging generations and friendships over thoughtfully prepared plates. There’s a nostalgic quality to the setting, as if memories of family gatherings and celebrations linger in the air, adding a comforting layer to the present moment.
At Hai Bawang, the focus is lovingly placed on the rhythm of the meal, the unfolding of flavors that honor the bounty of the sea and the heartiness of traditional Taiwanese fare. Delight emerges in dishes that pair seafood’s delicate freshness with the earthy richness of pork and seasonal vegetables. Light touches like the soothing chicken soup and refreshing sweet mango with crushed ice offer moments of pause and refreshment, perfectly balancing the meal’s pace.
This isn’t just about feeding hunger—it’s an experience wrapped in warmth, shared stories, and the joy of classic tastes enjoyed in good company. The service feels genuine and thoughtful, quietly attentive without intrusion, supporting the unspoken understanding that here, dining is a gentle celebration of time-honored flavors and human moments.

Good old traditional Taiwanese banquet style food. Brings back old memories.

Chicken Soup is still tasty! (2024 December) Chicken soup and sweet green mango (with crushed ice) are so good to taste (2023 December) The toilets mostly are in the upper floors, except the inaccessible one.

They don't serve just white rice or bottle water. Food was good if you can eat everything but we had little kids in our party so they couldn't eat most dishes

This restaurant is very good in terms of the quality of the food. There are a lot of seafood and pork dishes served. Vegetarian options were mostly stir-fried noodles or rice but can be requested.
